They already have a class like this at Badger; I would like to see a TRUE TaG USA Masters class.

it does not follow TaG USA weights and you have to be over 35 to race.

I read the ekarting post and it seems that Jeff is promoting a TAG Masters class with an age restriction (35+). I wonder if Martin will stay in Seniors or go Masters. I'm planning on staying in TAG Senior especially because Brian Jacobsen will be racing in Senor next year. The only way to learn and get better is to race with the best! Ryan or Jim might be interested in Masters (due to weight) though. But I don't think they are old enough.

Rick,

I talked to Jeff yesterday; he is going to go with the TaG Masters USA rules.

I would definitely be interested in the class if there are enough drivers. TAG had a decent showing this year at CHMS, most races with at least 10 drivers, But if they can get a decent size for this class it would be fun and I'll do it. I would even run both TAG Masters and Senior.

Sounds like both TAG Senior and TAG Master might have a nice sized class. :) I look forward to racing with you guys!

I will consider running some of the masters as long as you guys take it easy on me

It could be....but then....it could not! Just depends. Rick, What are you running in 08?

Jim I will most likely run TAG Senior. I will also run Rotax DD2 if I'm not the only one out there. It looks like I am the only one so far. :frown: Check out this poll to see what people plan to run next year:

When I voted in the pole I voted TaG Senior. Earlier today I told Les that I would run TaG Masters. After reading that Roberto and "Jim R" are running Masters I just might have to switch to Animals. :) Come on, guys, give an old drunk a break!

I'm just kidding - I look forward to racing with all of you guys - especially Roberto!!!!

Hey, "Jim R", is "S.G.", your partner in this witness-protection program, also going to run Masters?

Did you vote at a strip club?

I just read the thread over at ekarting (http://www.ekartingnews.com/viewtopic.php?t=64120) and I think that TAG Masters will definitely shrink the TAG Senior class. I think that's unfortunate but I understand the reasoning behind it.

Here are my thoughts on the situation:

http://www.ekartingnews.com/images/smiles/icon_surprised.gif Wow! There's a lot of controversy over this TAG Master's class. http://www.ekartingnews.com/images/smiles/icon_surprised.gif

I raced in TAG Senior at CHMS last year. I will meet the age (I'll be 35 in July) criteria for the TAG Masters class about half way through the season. I think that the TAG Masters class will shrink the TAG Senior class. I already know 3 guys who will move from Senior to Masters. I also personally know 3 or 4 new guys who will most likely race in Masters.

J Salak wrote: They don't want to race younger guys they think might be overly aggresive.

Although that is generally the case, I think the guys who quailfy for TAG Masters from CHMS are much more aggressive than the younger guys. The younger guys are faster and cleaner drivers in my opinion. Luke and Jordan haven't been involved in any incidents that I can remember. I really enjoy racing with Jordan and Luke and I think that competing with them makes me a better driver. The reason I race is to become a better driver. I think the "aggression" factor is not a valid reason for the TAG Master class and anyone who thinks that TAG Masters will be any less aggressive will be very disappointed.

I do think that weight is a factor and should be considered even though I'm 165lbs. http://www.ekartingnews.com/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif I know a lot of guys who weigh too much for TAG Senior and I completely understand their desire to compete on fair terms. I believe that weight is a legitimate reason to compete in TAG Masters. Another perfectly legitimate reason for Masters is that you can actually drink scotch and beer with your fellow racers afterwards. http://www.ekartingnews.com/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif http://www.ekartingnews.com/images/smiles/icon_lol.gif You also don't have to argue with anyone's mom or dad after a race.

Most of my friends are either moving from Senior to Masters or they are new and will race in Masters. My friends have been trying to convince me to race in Masters with them. Personally, I am planning on racing in TAG Senior because I believe the competition will be higher. In the end, I will choose the class that has the highest, cleanest and most competition. If TAG Masters draws away most of the field from Senior, I won't like it but I will move to Masters. I completely understand why Jordan and Luke would be worried about how the TAG Masters class will effect the TAG Senior class. I hope that that the TAG Senior class will survive and remain competitive in 2008 because that's the class I want to race in.

I am surprised that no one has mentioned Rotax FR125 Senior and Masters and what effect it will have on the TAG classes at CHMS.

Martin, I will run a few masters. I will probably run sr. with my son. As far as S.G. I would think he will run sr.

After reading some older post's
There has been some comments made about the Margay guys...I wonder if that means me? or my son? I must say I don't feel very welcome. I do not feel that I have offended anybody and if I did please let me know that would bother me.

Jim,

I'm responding immediately after reading; next I'll look back through the old threads.

Yes, you and #63 are the "Margay" guys. Please do not feel unwelcome; I'm very glad you found this forum and look forward to your contributions. I hope, too, that your son and #63 contributes.

Regardless of what was posted, please believe I respect your speed and racecraft. I don't remember if I posted anything negative of a personal nature, but I doubt it - please remember and accept as true the conversation we had after my wreck. If I did post anything the was insulting to you, your son, or #63 in any way, I sincerely apologize.

Best Regards,
Martin Lenick

edit: #63 might the wrong number, but you know who I'm talking about!!!

Martin, Thanks...I hope anyone who doesn't know me personally will come up to me this season and introduce themselves to me and my son. I am an easy going guy and I would like to know everyone that I am racing against. It is just more fun that way. Coming off the track and having the ability to laugh about a good or bad move makes for a great race day!

The 2008 TAG USA rules are out. You can view them at this URL:

http://www.tagracing.net/rules.html

It looks like TAG Masters has a minimum age requirement of 35.

COMPETITION AGE - To qualify, a drivers competition age shall be his / her age as of the date 01 / 01 / 2008.

TAG™ MASTERS - ages 35 and up TAG™ Masters’s drivers must be 35 years of age before they may compete.

NOTE: At the discretion of the club, series, and or Race director.
If a TAG™ Heavy class is not offered, a 200 lbs driver may run TAG™ Masters if he or she is 15 years of age and he or she weighs 200 lbs (minimum) on race day.
This is solely at the discretion of the club, series, and or Race director.

Rick,

That rule is the same for the last couple years; the question would be, can a driver run Heavy and Masters at the same event?

If I'm interpreting the rules correctly, it seems that drivers under the age of 35 and who weigh 200lbs or more must run the TAG Heavy class if it is available. If it is not, then it's up to the race director to decide whether or not they can run in TAG Masters.

Last year I saw differences in the age requirement for TAG Masters. I think there were different ages for the official TAG rules, Rock Island and Supernats.
