Do you think the rental agency we used for the RV at the LeMons race would mind?
Would the people who voted "Other" please post what class they are referring too by "other"?

There'll be more, the problem is doing the full schedule.
All the guys on the two teams we entered in the 100 lapper will be racing DD2 next year, Zach Ply, Andy Lee, Ron Shewmake and myself. Steve Ellis from the Autobahn said that he will also be racing his DD2 at CHMS a few times in 2008. There is also a guy by the name of Mario that lives less than 1/2 hr from the track. He's only practiced up to this point but now that his lap times have fallen he's looking to do some racing next year.

rushman-
TAG Sr. and TAG Masters are both TAGUSA classes.
TAG Sr is 15+ yo drivers, and a 'base' weight for engines. 360lbs for Leopards.
TAG Masters is for 35+ yo drivers and 30 lbs heavier than Sr. 390 lbs for Leopards. We affectionately refer to it as the 'old fat man class'.
I used to say that to make fun of the drivers. Now i'm 30, and can see that getting as quick as the 16 yo's is not as easy as it once was... That really stinks!

The poll doesn't reflect it, because I voted for TaG Senior, but, I'll most likely switch to TaG Masters.
Over 35 (way over)
30lbs heavier (not yet, but getting closer every day)

10-15lbs. I use 15lbs because I want to make sure I'm over. I usually weigh in 5-10lbs over. You can buy weight from the shop at CHMS and they have a scale you can weigh you and your kart on.

Inexpensive sources for lead are contractors' plumbing supply shops. The following info is for one in Wheeling (near CIR) but they're all over the place.
Wagner Michael & Sons Incorporated (http://www.merchantcircle.com/business/Wagner.Michael.And.Sons.Incorporated.847-398-5308)
2321 Foster Ave
Wheeling, IL 60090

Edit:
These shops have the 5-pound disks and that's about it. Scuba Divers' shops are another good source and have a selection of weights and shapes but are more expensive.

I am not sure. I was hoping to get the kart on the scale soon to see how much weight my fat a$$ needs to lose to make Senior weight. Provided I do not have to cut one of my legs off to get down there, I would like to run Senior. How much do you suppose a Birel M32/Leopard package weighs? I was guessing 180 bls which means I need to lose 10 more pounds to make 385 total.

That's a good question. I figured I would do some practicing until I have to go for some military training (mid-May). I plan to try some racing when I get back in July.
Anyone have any recommendations? I just turned 37 and I am around 180lbs.

Just saw that people were looking for weight. We do have some in the shop if you need. I've had trouble finding at the plumings shops in the past, but could have been looking in the wrong spot.
4 or 8 lb bricks. Painted & drilled. $2/lb.

On ekarting news I had some really rude PM's from people. I stepped away from getting class going. I'm very happy to see that Andy and Les are offering class. Should be fun!

Some people feared that it might split the TAG class into smaller classes. I'm guessing that there's someone with an abrasive personality who might have been upset that the Masters class would be responsible for that.

I am curious who is planning to run for season points or just show up for a few weekends?
We can also add another Sr. Tag…. my son Kyle. We are going to run for season points.
Jim
Last year I was stuck twiddling my thumbs in Rotax DD2 for most of the beginning of the season. Someone had convinced me that there would be grids of 8 to 15 DD2s every race. That never happened. That along with other financial and ethics related issues drove me to buy a TAG. That was the best thing that ever happened to my outdoor karting experience. This year, I hope to be more competitive for the overall season points.
Jeff Salak
02-18-2008, 09:17 PM
Thats exactly right there was some people that felt it would split senior class. Thus making only a few entries for class. I didn't mean to stir the pot so to speak. Just wanted to try to get more people interested! Hopefully it works. This is all I'm going to say about that. Lets just go racing and fill the grid!
Badger does have a Masters class. They have 20 guys that show up on average. They have about 30 signed up. They are seperate from Badger so to speak. Badger runs a 15 race schedule. Masters class has 10 races. I guess they figure an older guy can't make every race date. 2 out of the 10 races are at different tracks. They set up a Sat. and Sun. race up at Shawno. They also have a date set at Road America on kart track. Not road race track. Maybe some of those guys will want to race at Concepts too. Badger races are on Sundays.
It's my opinion, but I believe we will get a large field at Concepts for Masters. It may take a year or so, but it will happen. Stay positive let's race and have some fun.
Thanks Jeff

The real count is:
TAG Masters: 4 *Jeff, Roberto, Paul Russo, *Martin
TAG Senior: 8 David, *Jim R, *Luke, *Rick, Paul Wong, Stefan, *Jordan, Roberto, *Scott Goolik
Jim Koller hasn't decided yet. I also put an asterisk next to guys I believe will race every weekend based on their participation in 2007. So at a minimum every weekend there will be 2 TAG Masters guys and 5 TAG Senior guys. This doesn't count some of the other guys who aren't on the site.

I thought it would Rick. By having Masters class, this will improve entries to senior to. I know most masters won't race in senior class. But some will. Plus the Master aged people most likely have kids. They may not race Tag. They will bring in entries to other classes. It may not be huge, but it's a start for the track to have success.
You need entries to keep track going in general. The cost for up keep and everything else. So any kind of support is good. Concepts is an excellent track with excellent people in charge. You always need to keep a good thing going!

Having not seen an actual TaG race yet, I think I am leaning towards Masters. Old fat guys seem to have more fun and are more likely to not want to get hurt (anymore). Once I get time on the track and see some races maybe I will try TaG Senior.

You don't weigh enough. Are you old enough? You have to be 35 years old if you aren't 200lbs.
Jeff Salak
02-19-2008, 01:17 PM
The weight differemce between Senior and Masters is about 30#'s. Don't quote me on that. It depends on what engine. I know for senior with leopard is 360#'s and Masters is 390#'s. Your right about age 35 and over, this is not a heavy Masters class. If you dont weigh enough they just recalled 143 million pounds of hamberger!!!! LOL!
http://www.tagracing.net/rules.html
COMPETITION AGE - To qualify, a drivers competition age shall be his / her age as of the date 01 / 01 / 2008.TAG™ MASTERS - ages 35 and up TAG™ Masters’s drivers must be 35 years of age before they may compete.
NOTE: At the discretion of the club, series, and or Race director.
If a TAG™ Heavy class is not offered, a 200 lbs driver may run TAG™ Masters if he or she is 15 years of age and he or she weighs 200 lbs (minimum) on race day.

I'm almost 100% sure Les wanted this as only a 35 and over class. Not giving the option to the younger guy that might be heavy. His thinking i think was to keep this as an older guy class!!! Plus maybe not to take any riders away from senior.
Jeff

Les is the race director and it is his decision. But that would leave out heavier guys like Roberto, Jim Koller, and Ryan Starzyck who are heavy enough but aren't old enough.

We've made our age rule the same as RIGP has had it the last couple seasons.
35+ at any driver weight
30+ at driver weight of 200 lbs or more
This allows some leewy for the heavier driver without comprimising the 'older' guys concerns.
