Here is my synopsis of the Sprint Series event last night at CIR.
We held the first round of the 2007 Winter Pro Series at CIR last night, running three 25-lap sprint races on Track 1. Nine drivers participated, with four classified as lightweights and five classified as heavyweights. The lightweight drivers were Dave Mickelson, Rick Apichairuk, David Lehman and Irmantas Gadisauskas. The heavyweight drivers were John Oyen, Ryan Starzyk, Tim Bolen, Nerijus Sukackas, and Peter Jankovskis.
In the first race, David Lehman started on the pole followed by Irmantas and they finished the same way 25 laps later with Irmantas only half a second behind. David Mickelson and Rick did a nice job working through traffic, rising from starting positions of 8th and 7th respectively to finish 3rd and 4th. Lap times were very competitive among the four lightweight drivers, with their best laps differing by only 0.03 seconds. Rick was the fastest at 14.51. Among the heavyweights, Peter advanced from a 9th place start to battle John Oyen for fifth overall and first in heavyweight. After a fun battle, John came out on top though Peter had the fastest lap among the heavyweights at 14.71.
In the second race Rick started on the pole and streaked away to an impressive victory, winning the event by four seconds. Dave Mickelson had another impressive run, advancing from his sixth place starting position to finish second. John and Peter were once again first and second in heavyweight, but placed higher in the overall this time in third and fourth respectively. Peter had a hard time keeping up with John in the event, as John set what turned out to be the fast lap of the night for heavyweights at 14.65. Irmantus had bad luck with a spin early on in the event, but came back to set the fast lap for the lightweights at 14.41.
The third race was a bit boring. Dave Mickelson started on the pole, followed by Peter, Ryan and Irmantus and that is exactly how they finished twenty five laps later. David set the fast lap for the night overall with a 14.28. Peter was fastest among the heavyweights during the race with a 14.72.
For the night overall, David Mickelson was the winner of the lightweight class, followed by Rick, Irmantas, and David Lehman. Peter was the winner among the heavyweights followed by John, Tim and Ryan tied for third, and Nerijus was fifth.

Hi all,
We had a great turnout March 5th for the second round of our 2007 Winter Pro Series Championship. A total of 15 drivers took part in the Sprint Series races on Track #2, with 7 in the lightweight division and 8 in the heavyweight division. The lightweight racers were Rick Apichairuk, Jeremy Dunn, Irmantas Gadisauskas, David Lehman, El Manalo, David Mickelson, and John Oyen. The heavyweight racers were Stan Bernacki, Angelo George, Bill Huemann, Peter Jankovskis, Bohdan Kroczek, Erjon Memishi, Allen Skillicorn, and Ryan Starzyk.
In the first lightweight race, Irmantas started on the pole and stormed away to win by an impressive margin of 4.5 seconds. John Oyen fought hard to hold on to his second place starting position, but finally gave way to David Lehman on lap 16. Dave Mickelson passed John for third on lap 19, and then closed on David Lehman but couldn't get by. David Lehman ended up second, followed by David Mickelson and John Oyen. Dave Mickelson had the fast lap for the heat with a 14.93.
In the second lightweight heat, Jeremy Dunn started on the pole. David Mickelson worked past Jeremy to take the lead on lap 6. Jeremy did a heck of a job staying with Dave forthe remainder of the race, finishing less than a second behind David and running a very quick 14.95 lap in the process. John Oyen won a tight battle with Irmantas for third. Fast lap of the heat and the night went to Rick Apichairuk with a 14.83. That's really moving on Track #2 clockwise!
In the third lightweight race, Rick started on the pole and motored away to a 4 second margin of victory over David Mickelson who did a heck of a job rising from his fourth place starting position. David Lehman was third, followed by Jeremy Dunn in fourth. Irmantas had the fast lap of the heat at 14.95.
On the heavyweight side, Stan Bernacki started on the pole and led for nearly the entire event. Erjon pased him on the 24th lap to take the win from his third place start. Bill Huemann finished third, followed by Peter Jankovskis. Erjon had the fast lap of the heat with a 15.06.
In the second heat, Bohdan Kroczek started on the pole but was passed on the first lap by Peter Jankovskis. Peter went on to take the win and set fast lap for the heavyweights on the night with a 15.01. Ryan Starzyk was second, followed by Erjon and Stan Bernacki.
In the third race, Angelo George started on the pole, but was passed on the second lap by Ryan Starzyk. Peter passed Angelo to take second on lap 5. Erjon passed Angelo for third on lap 6. Ryan, Peter and Erjon finished the race first, second and third with the three seperated by less than a second. Angelo did a nice job coming home 4th, less than three seconds behind Erjon. Erjon had the fast lap of the heat with a 15.07.
It was a great night of racing. I hope all of you will join us for the third round of the Winter Pro Series Championship, the Track 3 Grand Prix to be held at 7pm on Tuesday, March 13.
Great race everyone!

We had nine drivers racing Tuesday night in the third round of our Winter Pro Series championship. Rick Apichairuk, David Lehman, Dave Mickelson, Matt Miller and Greg Shebert were classified as lightweights. John Oyen, Paul Russo, Stan Yovchev and I were classified as heavyweights.
In the first qualifying racing, Paul Russo started on the pole, with Matt Miller second and me in third. Matt passed Paul for first on the second lap. David Lehman passed me for third on lap five. Dave Nickelson passed me for fourth on lap 9. Dave kept charging, passing David Lehman for third on lap 13, and Paul Russo for second on the last lap. Dave had the fast lap of the heat with a 29.93, three tenths faster than the rest of the field.
In the second qualifying race, John Oyen started on the pole with Greg Shebert in second. After a spirited race long battle, they finished in the same order only four tenths of a second apart. Dave Mickelson started fourth, but passed Rick Apichairuk for third on lap 7. Both held those positions to the end of the race. I started fifth, but Matt Miller passed me on lap 12. Matt and I shared fast lap for the race at 30.29.
In the third qualifier, Dave Mickelson started on the pole and led wire-to-wire, finishing 2.5 seconds ahead of Rick. Rick had a strong race, improving two positions from his fourth place starting position. Greg had an even better race, improving 4 spots from his 8th place start. Rick had the fast lap of the race at 30.21.
For the final, Dave Mickelson was on the pole, followed by Matt, Rick, Paul, Greg, John, me, David Lehman, and Stan. Matt was passed by both Rick and Paul on lap five. Rick began to pull away, as Paul, Matt, Greg, John and I battled. On Lap 10, John entered the hairpin a little bit wide, which allowed me to dive down the inside to take sixth. On lap 12, Greg had a good run going on Matt heading toward the Red Bull arch. Greg tried to pass and their was cntact between the two, allowing me to slip by into fourth. I chased Paul Russo for 7 laps and managed to pass him at the end of the Track 2 straight on lap 19.
At the finish, Dave Mickelson was the winner by 0.8 seconds over Rick. The two of them finished 16 seconds ahead of me in third. Paul was another 2 seconds back in fourth. Matt was fifth, followed by Stan, David Lehman, John and Greg. David Mickelson had the fastest lap among the lightweights, with a blistering 29.60. Rick was only a hundreth of a second behind, with a 29.61. I had the fast lap for the heavyweights with a 30.16.

Hi guys,
Long day at the office today so my writeup of the April 9 round of the Sprint Series will be brief.
We had a nice turnout of 15 drivers with several new faces and a few familiar ones that I hadn't seen in a while. All three races where run on Track 5 in the counter-clockwise direction. It was the first time on Track 5 for a number of drivers and they they adapted very well.
The first race was won by David Lehman, who finished 7 seconds ahead of me, and 10 seconds ahead of John Oyen. John did a great job as it was his first race ever on Track 5. Dave Mickelson and Irmantas Gadisauskas tied for the fast lap among the light weight drivers with each running a 27.85. Erjon Memishi had the fast lap among the heavyweights at 28.09.
The second race was won by Rick Apichairuk after a race long duel with Dave Mickelson. Dave finished just a quarter second behind Rick. Dave Harrington was third, followed by Erjon and John Oyen. Fast lap for the lightweights went to Dave Mickelson with a 27.78. Dave Harrington had the fast lap among the heavies with a 27.97.
The third race was won by Irmantas, who pulled away steadily to beat me by 4.5 seconds at the finish. Closing fast in third, fourth and fifth were Dave Mickelson, Rick Apichairuk and Ryan Osiecki. Rick had the fast lap of the heat and for the night among the lightweights with a 27.69. Among heavyweights, John Oyen was fast for the heat and the night with a 27.83, very impressive for a Track 5 rookie.
The final standings for the night had Rick Apichairuk on the top of the podium with 35 points, I was second with 33 points and Dave Mickelson was third with 30 points. Ryan Osiecki and Irmantas tied for fourth with 26 points and John Oyen was 6th with 24.
Here's the latest spreadsheet for the Pro League point standings.

Hi All,
We had a great turnout of 15 drivers for last night's Grand Prix on Track 5, including Adam Andrea who was celebrating his birthday. All three qualifying races were run counter-clockwise and the final was run clockwise.
In the first qualifier, David Lehman started on the pole and led wire-to-wire, finishing 1.27 seconds ahead of Dave Mickelson. Dave had a strong run, advancing 6 positions from his eighth place start to finish second. (Three other drivers managed to gain six spots during the race: Erjon, Adam Andrea, and Rick Apichairuk. Great racing guys!). Irmantus Gadisauskas gained three spots from his sixth place start to finish third. John Oyen finished fourth. Rick Apichairuk had the fastest lap of the heat overall with a 27.91. Peter Jankovskis had the fastest lap among the heavyweights with a 28.14.
In the second qualifier, Stanislav Yovchev started on the pole, followed by Peter, Gordon McGrew, Dave Mickelson, and Irmantas. Peter passed Stan for the lead on the first lap and Dave passed Gordon to move into third. On the second lap, Dave passed Stan to move into second. Gordon and Irmantas appear to have come together on the same lap, moving Irmantas up into fourth and dropping Gordon to 14th. Irmantas and Erjon appear to have come together on lap 4, moving Erjon into 4th and dropping Irmantas to 12th. Erjon held 4th for much of the race, but was passed late in the going by Rick Apichairuk and Will Johnston. Up at the front of the field, Peter managed to hold off Dave to win the heat by 0.3 seconds. Stan Yovchev drove a fine race to finish third, only three seconds behind the two leaders. Rick Apichairuk and Will Johnston were fourth and fifth, about three seconds behind Stan. David Lehman made the biggest move of the heat, advancing 7 spots from his last place starting position. David also had the fastest lap of the heat overall with a 27.77. Will Johnston was fastest among the heavy weights with a 28.17.
In the third heat, Rick Apichairuk started on the pole, followed by Adam Andrea and Erjon. Fourteen laps later, they finished in the same order with Rick 0.3 seconds ahead of Adam and Erjon another 1.7 seconds back. Dave Mickelson made the biggest move of the race, advancing 7 positions from his 11th place start. Dave had the fastest lap for the heat and the night overall with a 27.66. Erjon Memishi had the fastest lap of the heat for the heavyweights with a 28.18.
For the main event, Dave Mickelson was the top qualifier, followed by Rick Apichairuk, Peter, Erjon, David Lehman, John Oyen, Will Johnston and Irmantas. Dave, Rick and Peter broke away from the field at the green flag, leaving Erjon in fourth with a train of fast drivers behind. On lap 7, Will and Irmantas slipped passed John Oyen, moving up into 6th and 7th while dropping John to 8th. On lap 10, Irmantas moved passed Will to take 6th. On lap 12, there was contact between Erjon and David Lehman, knocking Erjon out of the race and resulting in a red flag that temporarily halted the race. When racing resumed, Dave Mickelson, Rick and Peter again pulled away from the field. Peter managed to pass Rick on lap 22 but could not make a dent in the lead established by Dave. Dave Mickelson ended up the winner, about 2 seconds ahead of Peter in second and Rick in third. David Lehman was fourth and Will Johnston was fifth. After a spirited battle that saw John Oyen and Irmantas swap positions on three consecutive laps, Irmantas finished sixth and John finished seventh. Gordon McGrew and Paul Jones made the biggest moves of the race with both gaining six positions from their 14th and 15th place starting positions. Very impressive, paritularly for Paul who was racing with us for the first time. Dave Mikelson had the fastest lap of the final overall with a 27.99. Peter had the fastest lap among the heavyweights for the final and the night overall with a 28.13.
Thanks for all of you that made it out to race with us. I hope you can join us for OUR NEXT RACE, TUESDAY, MAY 22. CHECK IN WILL BE AT 8:00 WITH RACING TO START AT 8:30.
The race on May 22nd will be the final round of our 2007 Winter Pro Series Championship. I will be awarding trophies to the top three finishers in the lightweight and heavyweight divisions of the championship after the race.
Although first and second have been decided for both weight classes at this point, there remain strong battles for third.

Hi all,
We had a nice turnout of 11 drivers for the June 25 Grand Prix event. It was nice to have new racer Brian Palmer join us and also to have Robert Maier back after a long absence.
Peter J started the first qualifier on the pole, followed by Erjon and Rick Apichairuk. Erjon and Rick battled each other fairly hard at the start, allowing Peter to stretch out an early lead and also allowing Dave Mickelson to work his way up from his 6th place start to 4th. By lap 5, things had stabilized with Peter out front and the pack of Erjon, Rick and Dave chasing him down. On lap 9, Erjon and Rick blew by Peter, demoting him to third. On lap 10, Dave passed Peter to take third. On lap 13, Dave worked past Rick to take second. At the finish, Erjon was the winner by 0.27 seconds over Dave. Rick was another 0.32 in third. Peter was fourth, heading up a good battle between AJ Schalund, Robert Maier and Gordon McGrew another 1.5 seconds back. Dave Mickelson had the fast lap of the heat and the night as it would turn out with a 30.03. Dave also gained the most positions in the race, picking up 4 spots from his 6th place start.
Dave Harrington started the second qualifier on the pole, followed by Dave Mickelson, and AJ Schalund. Dave Mickelson passed Dave Harrington for the lead on the first lap. AJ Schalund demoted Dave Harrington to third on the second lap. The top 3 maintened there order until lap 10, when Dave Harrington was passed by Rober Maier. Dave was passed by Rick Apichairuk on lap 11, move Rick up to 4th. On lap 13, Rick passed Robert Maier to take third. At the end, Dave Mickelson was the winner, 5.2 seconds ahead of AJ in second. Rick and Robert were another 2 seconds back in third and fourth, respectively. Dave Harrington ended up fifth. Rick Apichairuk had the fast lap of the heat with a 30.08. Four drivers were able to improve two positions during the race.
Peter Konieczny started the third qualifier on the pole, followed by Stanislav Yovchev, Robert Maier and Dave Harrington. Peter K held the lead for three laps before being passed by Robert Maier. Erjon, who had worked his way passed Dave Harrington to take third on lap 2, passed Peter K on lap 5 to take second. Erjon completed his rise to the top, by passing Robert Maier on lap 7. Further back in the field, Gordon McGrew was having a strong race. After starting 7th, Gordon was running 6th on lap 8. Peter J and Rick Apichairuk came together in front of him on lap 9 and Gordon moved up to 4th. Gordon passed Peter K for third on lap 13. At the finish, Erjon was the winner about 2.7 seconds ahead of Robert Maier in second. Gordon was another 2 seconds back in third, followed by Peter K and Dave Mickelson. Dave Mickelson and Rick Apichairuk tied for fast lap of the heat, with each running a 30.24. Erjon and Gordon both improved 4 spots from their respective starting positions during the race.
Dave Mickelson was the pole sitter for the final, followed by Erjon, Robert Maier, Rick Apichairuk, AJ Schalund, Peter J, Gordon McGrew, Dave Harrington, Peter K, Stan, and Brian Palmer. Peter J and Gordon both passed AJ on the first lap to move into 5th and 6th respectively. Gordon moved passed Peter J to take 5th on lap 3 and began to chase down Robert and Rick who where having a spirited battle for third. Gordon caught up to them on lap 6 just as Rick was attempting to pass Robert in the transition area going from track 1 to track 2. Gordon decided to try and make it three wide in that section and unfortunately paid the price, dropping to 10th. On lap 9, Rick managed to get passed Robert for third. Peter J passed Robert on lap 12 to take 4th. The top 5 held their positions for the remainder of the race. Dave Mickelson was the winner by 3 seconds over Erjon. We had a great turn out for our Track 3 grand prix on Wednesday, July 25 with 15 drivers participating, 5 for the first time: Jennifer Blauw, James Koller, Kyle Kotlarz, Chris Lupo, and Jon Probst. It was also great to see Martin Lenick healthy and racing again.
Many thanks to Rick Apichairuk for hosting the event in my absence. Thanks also to Rick and Brian Palmer for providing me some color on the night so I could put together this writeup. Sorry I couldn't race with everyone myself, but I look forward to doing so in August. I'll let everyone know as soon as I have a date for the next Track 3 GP.
The first qualifying race appears to have been pretty exciting. It looks like Jennifer Blauw started on the pole, followed by Peter Konieczny, Brian Palmer, Martin Lenick, Gordon McGrew, John Oyen, Rick Apichairuk, and Matt Miller. Rick and Matt both had great first laps, advancing to fourth and sixth places respectively while Martin fell from fourth to eighth. On the second lap, Peter K passed Jennifer for the lead, Matt Miller moved passed Gordon McGrew to take fifth, and Martin and Dave Mickelson both passed John Oyen to move into seventh and eighth respectively. On the third lap, Brian Palmer was caught out of position and dropped from third to ninth. During lap 4, Dave Mickelson worked past Martin to take sixth. John Oyen and Chris Lupo appear to have come together while contesting eighth. Chris took the spot whil John dropped back three spots to eleventh. On lap 5, both Rick and Matt moved past Jennifer, advancing to second and third, respectively. On lap 7, Dave and Martin moved passed Gordon, advancing to fifth and sixth, respectively. On lap 8, Dave and Martin played another round of leapfrog, passing Jennifer to move up to fourth and fifth, respectively. During Lap 9, Chris Lupo moved passed Gordon Mcrew and Jennifer to move from eith to sixth. On lap 10, Rick passed Peter K to assume the lead. On lap 12, Matt Miller and Dave passed Peter K to take over second and third, respectively. Dave passed Matt on the last lap to take second. At the finish, Rick was the winner about 2.5 seconds ahead of Dave and Matt. Peter K was another 1.5 seconds back in fourth. Martin Lenick and Chris Lupo were another second back in fifth and sixth, respectively. Fast lap of the heat went to Dave Mickelson with a 30.81. Dave also gained the most positions during the heat, improving eight spots from his tenth place start.
Compared to first qualifier, the second was pretty calm. Matt Miller started on pole, followed by Dave, Chris, Rick, Jon Probst and Martin. On the second lap, Dave passed Matt for the lead and began to disappear. Martin also passed Jon for fifth. On lap 7, Martin passed Rick for fourth. On lap 8, Chris passed Matt for second. On lap 9, Martin and Rick, both moved past Matt to take third and fourth, respectively. On lap 10, Martin passed Chris for second. At the finish, Dave was the winner, about 2.5 seconds ahead of Martin and Chris in second and third. Rick was another 1.5 seconds back in fourth. Chris Lupo had the fast lap of the heat at 30.00. Three drivers managed to pick up four positions during the race: Martin, Peter K and Jennifer Blauw.
Stan Yovchev started the third heat on pole, followed by Kyle Kotlarz, John Oyen, Ryan Starzyk, Jon Probst, Chris Lupo and Dave. It looks like a pretty fierce battle was fought for second for the first half of the race, allowing Stan to get away to a strong early lead. Jon Probst passed Ryan for fourth on the second lap, only to have Ryan take it back on the third lap. On the fourth lap, John Oyen moved past Kyle for second. On lap 5, Chris Lupo moved past Jon Probst for fifth. On lap 6, Chris passed both Ryan and Kyle to move into third. Ryan appears to come out on the wrong end of the pass as he fell from fourth to seventh. On lap 7, Chris moved into second by passing John Oyen. On lap 8, Jon Probst and Dave Mickelson moved passed Kyle to take fourth and fifth, respectively. On lap 10, Chris caught and Passed Stan for the lead and Dave worked his way past Jon Probst to take fourth. On lap 13, Dave passed John Oyen for third. On the last lap, Dave caught Stan and moved into second. At the finish, Chris Lupo was the winner, about five seconds clear of Dave in second. Stan was about one second back of Dave in third and John Oyen was another second back in fourth. Rick finished fifth and Jon Probst was sixth. Fast lap of the heat and the night went to Chris Lupo with a 29.84. Dave also recorded a sub-30 lap with a best of 29.93. They were the only two drivers in the 29's on the night. Both also managed to improve five positions from their respective starting positions during the heat.
For the final, Dave Mickelson started on the pole followed by Rick, Chris, Martin, Peter K, Matt, Stan, Ryan and Jon Probst. Chris passed both Rick and Dave on the first lap to take the lead. Rick passed Dave for second on lap 12. There were no further changes among the top four and they motored on to the finish with Chris Lupo the winner by three seconds over Rick. Rick was one second ahead of Dave and Martin in third and fourth, respectively. Further back in the field, the race was much more interesting. Ryan had a good start, picking up two spots to advance to sixth. Peter K and Stan were on the wrong end of that exchange as they dropped to seventh and eighth, respectively. Matt Miller advanced from sixth to fifth. On the second lap, Peter K got one spot back, advancing from seventh to sixth. Jon Probst also picked up a spot, advancing to eigth and dropping Stan to ninth. Things were pretty quiet until lap 11, when Jon Probst passed Ryan for seventh. On lap 13, Peter K passed Matt Miller to regain his fifth place starting spot. On lap 20, Jon Probst moved past Matt to take sixth. At the finish, Peter K was fifth, followed by Jon Probst in sixth, Matt in seventh, Ryan in eith and Stan in ninth. Jon Probst had the fast lap of the final with a 30.33 and also gained themost positions, picking up three spots relative to his start.
I hope everyone had a great time and I look forward to racing with you in August. I will send out an e-mail as soon as I have a date.
Peter Jankovskis
For the final, Dave Mickelson started on the pole followed by Rick, Chris, Martin, Peter K, Matt, Stan, Ryan and Jon Probst. Chris passed both Rick and Dave on the first lap to take the lead.
Good write up Peter. I have one correction for the final race. Dave started on pole. Chris started 2nd and I started 3rd. Chris passed Dave on the first lap.
Good racing last night everyone! Congrats to Peter K for fastest lap. I've attached the updated league standings.
