What an amazing weekend.
Over 500 karts running in 51 different classes.
Every shape and style imaginable - one was actually powered by a jet engine.
There had to be well over a thousand people, and it seemed the Bob and
Brian knew all of them.
I drove one of Zirves' karts and had a blast. What a fast ride!
Thanks to Bob, Brian, the rest of the Zirves family, and to their friends
who unselfishly provided their expert coaching and "pit crew" services.
Congratulations to Bob and Brian for taking first and second in the last race
of the weekend.

now that sounds like fun! :)
i didn't even know about the event...
one question though - where do you fit a jet engine on a kart? :)

I heard that Jet engine kart was at USAIR....he only ran it in the parking lot, not on the track. Scott Paape said the driver wore ear muffs but no helmet.
Martin, did he run it in a class? or just an exhibition lap? What speed do you think he got it up to?
I can't wait to see/hear that thing run.

He fired it up near tech, the sound of which drew all our attentions.
Later, he took it solo on the track, but it konked out (I don't think
that's the technical term) after the carousel.
He said it's only been up to about 120mph, but still had a lot left.
It red-lines at 80,000rpm.
All in all, it's just an ultra-expensive novetly.

One good thing, given the heat of the exhaust you would never need to worry about someone bumping you from behind.

Thanks for the props Martin.
I am glad you enjoyed yourself and you got to experience the road racing community; it’s like one big family. Your welcome to come run again anytime you wish, my family and the rest of the crew really enjoyed have you come out and race with us.
I do also want to think you for proving that even without much road racing experience the equipment we put out on the track will run up front; I am just sorry we didn’t think about checking the weight on the kart for your Saturday race, because I think even at the correct weight on you could have still won that race.
I can tell you there were a few people that could not believe it was your first time out on a long track road course. You did a really good job out there. :thumb:
Thanks for coming out.

so... i've been thinking about this road racing thing... it really sounds like fun
what is the biggest difference(s) in setup for road racing versus a place like norway?
lets say hypothetically that i have a trailer and decide i want to try it... can i use my HPV kart on a full size road course?
i'm guessing that i'd probably be looking for a gear with much fewer teeth than i use at norway but i'm not sure...
how many laps are typically run in a race and how much fuel is burned through - maybe a larger tank is in order also for longer races...
