View Full Version : Stuck a motor at 12000 RPM and 840 EGT temp.

I lost my stuck motor virginity today.

 I stuck my motor today at 12000 RPM and 840 degrees about halfway down the front straight. :shakehead: It was on my 5th lap too, so the engine was warm. I'm not sure what happened there. Anyone here ever stick a motor at cold temps and low RPM? At least I have 2 weeks to fix it before the next race.

An opportunity to take it to Steve at VKP.

Just my 2 cents............

I saw 2 leopards stick at Gingerman last weekend for no good reason. Did you warm it up before you went out? What oil ratio did you use?

Dave, I used 16:1 and I usually mix a little more oil than needed. I have one of those idiot proof mix cans which measures out the oil and gas for you. I use the Burris Hi-Rev Blend. I just mixed the fuel right before I went out. I warmed it up on the track for 2 laps. It was cold, so maybe I didn't warm it up enough.

Yes it sounds like a classic cold stick. You need to warm up the water to 100degrees on the stand before you go out.

Plus most leopard builders (ex. Adkins, Laukaitis) recommend 4oz castor and 4oz blend to 1 gallon of race fuel. The only time I use straight blend is if it is really cold out so the castor does not separate from the fuel. There are a few threads on Ekarting about best oil to use. Straight blend is not mentioned.

Make sure you shake the fuel can really well after you mix your fuel.

Sorry to hear that Rick. I am not the most technical guy here, but I tend to agree that sounds like it got hot too fast and siezed. So two questions...

1. Do you need a hand wrenching on it?

2. Does that mean you have more drinking time this weekend?

Jim, thanks for offering to drink, errr I mean wrench on the engine, with me. But I'm not going to work on it myself. So I will have lots of time to drink over these next couple of weeks.

Luckily, I have a backup kart now. Birel M32 + Rotax. I still have to go over it thoroughly and make sure it's mechanically sound.

Awesome. Do you plan on racing it in TaG Sr. or Rotax-Only?

Rick,

You should bring the Rotax out to South Bend this weekend for the club race......

ROTAX only will have priority. Since there aren't that many ROTAX races, I will race it in TAG Masters. Hopefully they will split the Senior and Master classes so I can do that. TAG Senior is my main focus right now.

It's still in pieces Dave. Otherwise, I would definitely consider it. I basically ripped off a Leopard and put on a Rotax from another kart. When are you going to come out and race with us?

Rick,

I would love to race with you guys but I am having a blast (and staying busy) wrenching on Brennan's karts.
