MyChron recorded 13,500 RPM and 1016 EGT right before explosion. This motor was rebuilt early in the season by Woltjer. It stuck (4 corner stick) in May. I then sent it to VKP to blue print it. It has about 5.5 hours on it. I never twist it to 17K RPM. I usually hit around 15,500 or 16,000 RPM and I usually run lower EGTs (950ish).

Sorry Rick, that looks bad. Run your Rotax at Rock Island, it will be faster anyway.

Are HPV motors more reliable?

From what I hear, HPVs are more reliable. But then again, the faster you go, the more maintenance is required. So I think TAG is inherently more unreliable due to speed. There's also more things that can break. I've also been told that Rotax is more reliable than other TAG engines.

HPV is alot more reliable. I havent broken a thing motor related on my HPV last year or this year. I did buy a few carb rebuild kits, 2 plugs and a plug boot.

Todays practice at CHMS will end up costing me between 600 and 800 Once I get my motor fixed.

Applause, applause and so on, Very Nice. In all the years we ran McCullochs, I dont think I ever did a stock one up that good ! Very Nice. Now , if we talk about old reed opens, now thats different. I have grenaded those to the point that the lower part of the stuffer was all that was left on the kart still bolted to the motor mount ! Nitro is a Wonderful thing ! Very potent (and dangerous too ) LOL:shooting_smilie2:

Hey im going to be new to tag next year. I'll be racing at concept haulers motor speedway. What does flipping the carb upside down do?

Flipping the carb upside down is to make it easier to adjust the needles. Rightside up, the needles are between the carb and the seat, which is hard to get to when you are driving around. Flipping it over makes it easier to reach.
Personally, in my first year (this year) I just set the needles fairly conservatively and didn't mess with them. I was concentrating on my driving. This year I will work on playing with the needles. (on reason why I haven't "played" with them yet is that it is easier to lean out and blow a Leopard then say a rotax for example, so I didn't want to do that hehe)

Does it do anything preformance wise?

No performance gain. To be honest you should leave it right side up and get used to making the adjustments. If you plan to run anything regional like Route 66 they will make you flip the carb right side up.
