Just wondering what oil is better in cold weather. Need something that is legal under TagUSA rules. Have no way of keeping fuel and oil at warm temp before race. That being said what is best to use say if temp is in 40's or 50's. Any info would help!
Thanks Jeff

Jeff,

Castor starts to separate from fuel at around 45 degrees. I think it is a good idea to run a synthetic or blend in colder temps. We like to use Burris blend....this is legal at Concept Haulers. Not sure what everyone else is using.

Dave, thanks for info. Most likely will go with Burris blend. Used castor oil in upper 30's last year. Nothing happened but I MAY have been lucky!

I'm with Dave. Castor starts to seperate at around 45f or so, so I start to run Blend anytime you get close to 50. Look for small oil "bb's" in the fuel.

Also, set the kart out in the sun in the morning. Shake the kart to mix the fuel in the tank if you're worried. Leave the fuel cans in the sun, etc. It doesn't take much to warm up above the seperation threshold.

Make sure you warm up the motor VERY good as well. It takes a lot more to get to 100 degree water than it does in July when ambient is 90+... A jacket or blanket over the radiator until you leave the pits doesn't hurt.
