Championship Karting International, the 7-class WKA-sanctioned national race kart series is kicking off the 2009 season with a cash and prize package worth $27,000 at the Championship Karting International Grand Prix of New Castle presented by Bridgestone, May 29 – 31.

The new series has 'turbo-charged' its launch at New Castle with a purse that includes $22,000 in cash; an innovative $3,000 education investment prize program in the KF3, IAME Junior and Cadet classes; plus a IAME Senior and IAME Junior class sweepstakes to win an IAME / Parilla Leopard motor, contributed by Italian Motors and Russell Karting Specialties.

In the hotly contested KF2 and KZ2 divisions, competitors will hit the track contending for a piece of the $14,000 cash purse – the winner of each division will land $3,500; second place earns $2,000 and third place $1,500 in both classes. IAME Senior class competitors will shoot for a share of $6,000; the champion grabbing $3,000, second place earning $2,000 and third place $1,000. The TaG ICC class has a $2,000 purse; the victor will pocket $1,000; 2nd place delivers $600 and 3rd place $400.

Supporting CKI’s mission of helping racers develop careers for the next level, the KF3, IAME Junior and Cadet competitors will compete for prizes totaling $3,000 – all prizes will be contributed the racers’ educational savings plans. In all three divisions, the winner earns $500, second $300 and third place $200.

"The CKI Grand Prix of New Castle presented by Bridgestone is a great event to launch our new series. The Championship Karting International series was developed to support the aspirations of our competitors. We want to help them reach their potential both on and off the track," states Phil DeLaO, co-founder of CKI. "We’ve developed the series to help racers take their talents to the next level, whether that’s behind the wheel, or elsewhere – and have a great time doing it."

All prizes are provided by CKI except for the TaG ICC purse, which is being presented in partnership with Italian Motors.

Sweetening the prize package, the CKI Grand Prix of New Castle presented by Bridgestone will also offer a special prize for the IAME Junior and Senior classes. Italian Motors and Russell Karting Specialties are holding a "race raffle" for all competitors in both classes for a chance to win an IAME / Parilla Leopard Motor package worth $2,200. In addition, the top Master driver (35 years or older) in the IAME Senior class, will receive $500 cash, plus two sets of Bridgestone tires provided by CKI and Grand Products.

. The Championship Karting International 2009 series is a launching a WKA-sanctioned four-event season, featuring seven class races in 2009. In addition to the May 29-31 kick-off at New Castle Motorsports Park, New Castle, IN, CKI will hold races at New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, NJ, on June 26 – 29; a race in August (date and location to be announced); and a race on October 9 – 11 (location to be announced).
