Great racing everyone! A huge thanks to Ryan for letting me drive his HPV kart so I could race in HPV Heavy (http://mylaps.com/results/showrun.jsp?id=1187512). Also a big thanks to Carl for helping me to mount my seat in Ryan's kart!

That race was horrible for me. I switched my tire pressures around before the race (wasn't my idea) and that added a half of a second. Then my hubs slide in at I think 12, and finally I kept on having to rewind my low speed needle (the big one) because it would viberate itself loose every 5 laps. So... 48.6+.5=49.1 and i was on average doing 50.5; nearly 2 seconds off due to hubs.

That's very unfortunate Kyle. I didn't realize you had so many problems. I think that for the most part, everyone slowed down. Dan had a 48.3 in morning practice and you had a 48.7. No one was in the 48's during the race. I'm actually confused to how or why that happened.

It was my first time racing the HPV on my own so I really didn't know what I was doing. I did drive the HPV for 50 laps last year in the Halloween race, but Ryan set all the needles and stuff. I spent most of the race playing around with the needles. I was trying to be conservative with the needles because I didn't want to blow up Ryan's engine.

I did enjoy racing with you guys. The HPV class is very good. All the drivers are competitive and helpful as well. I think the racers make the class one of the best classes at Norway.

You should really consider HPV, because its a great class. Although I wasn't having a great race, I still had a great battle with Aaron Metzler. I know for a fact we went side by side on the back straight three times. Just really good, tight, and competitive racing.

-as to why the field slowed so much, I have no idea.

Stig, EXTRA PARTS !!!! I have been saying this for a while now ! Maintenance, and upkeep. You need to look at these things every race and replace before they go bad ! I had all those extra carbs and parts and no one wanted any of them ! Well, I may not be as fast as some, but I DO NOT BREAK due to lack of maintenance ! The carb is THE most important part of a Yamaha and HPV. Ask anyone who races them ! You have to have extra carbs, parts and take care of them. I had 5 extra springs I did sell to one racer who knew that. Anyway, you guys cant figure out why you slow down, its the nature of the beast with the HPV. It runs on gas and retains heat. Also consider driver error and also, last week at the Rt 66 series, we also got slower when the track gets hotter. That would be my guess on the times. We went 2 to 3 tenths slower on Sunday afternoon with new tires ! HOT TRACK. Stig, let me know on the tire tools. When you will be there so I can come down.

Unfortunately, I have to pay for an LS7 engine before I buy an HPV.

But if anyone was going to get started racing at Norway, I would definitely recommend that they start racing in HPV. Especially if they had experience from CIR. The sensation of speed is similar. It's not terrifyingly fast like the TAG. You really have to work on being smooth because any mistake causes you to bog. It also has the largest grid. The competition is good and very tight. It's very similar to racing in one of the Pro/Peter J events at CIR. And it's much cheaper than TAG. It also supports drivers up to 200lbs. If you weigh 200lbs or less, you will make weight. If I was starting out in club racing now, I would definitely race in HPV at CHMS.

I am not sure its cheaper than TaG. If well maintained, I think they are comparable with the HPV being on the 4 pipe now. A well maintained TaG (depending on motor choice of course) will last the season ! Will an HPV 4 last that long ? As far as speed, you are correct, they are not as fast, but still a lot of fun to race. I wish I had been able to keep mine when I got the Rotax, but, you all know the economy ! Nuff Said. I do miss racing the HPV now that handling issues are resolved for me. Oh well, maybe next season I can swing another one.

Rick, Good job on your 4th in only your second HPV race. Even though they were running faster lap times in practice you get prize for fastest race lap.

Thanks Ryan! I haven't put your seat back in because I didn't want to rush it after a hot long day of racing. I want to spend and couple hours working on it to make sure it's done right.

Not yet. I will make sure it is up to the standards of Contour d'Elegance.
