View Full Version : If you owned a track or a shop or ran a series....
There has been quite a lot of discussion lately about how to run a shop, track and/or series. This thread is for everyone to post how they would run things if they owned a shop, track and/or ran a series. I'm sure there are at least a couple of members on here that have ideas. So basically, what is the perfect series, track, shop in your opinion?

As a customer, it would be a nice option to rent a kart for one of the main racing series. I wouldn't mind getting some more experience at Norway (or wherever) but not ready to commit to purchase/store/maintain my own setup.
Not saying a kart shop should do this, but if they did, I would be interested!

They do that already........most of the tracks and shops have arrive and drive programs at diferent levels.....you can go an rent a used package or set up a new equipment arrive and drive program.....
I am sure Jet karting can design a program for you or MRP in South Bend.

If I owned a shop....
I would sponcer Little Leaugue programs and kids soccer league programs. Start in Naperville, Palatine, Schaumburg, and Libertyville. Simply ask if you can have a flyer given to every kid signing up for registration one. Reach out to 10,000 families in a big hurry! Have the flyer worth a $100 or more, towards safety equipement with the purchase of a kart! If these towns dont let you. Move on to Arlington Hts, Algonquin, and so on.
A must to me build a relationship with local indoor kart tracks.
I have so many ideas, but I dont want to give out my ideas. Someday I hope to start something up! LOL!! But not in this economy!
I may be wrong but shops cant be that busy in this economy right now. Plus with all the down time in the winter that we have. They have lots of time on there hands. Its time to try and get creative and start to reach out to people and get them to find out about karting.

Arrive and drive doesn't get me nearly as excited as a season championship. Can I rent an HPV at Norway for every championship race of the season? That would be fun!

By the time you rent for a season. Im sure you could own one. There are great deals on ekarting news for quality used stuff.
Has any of the shops or tracks ever advertised at a fair? In Lake County, they have a fair every July that is a huge success. They have everything from demolishion derdy, motocross race and free style motocross. Along with everything else at a fair.
I think if you could put a booth having karts all with different set-ups and engines. Have video with local sprint tracks. Have a video with road racing from say Road America. The motocross draws 5000-10,000 people for 3 nights every night.. This would be a great place to look into! Parents are scared to death in most cases about motocross. Now you show them a safer form of racing. You may just get a few people interested.

The term 'Arrive and drive" does not mean only during practice days........you can rent equipment for any race at any championship....to give you an example......there are companies offering arrive and drives for the Super Nationals in Vegas this November.....if there are arrive and drives for the MOST important kart race in the USA...........believe me, there are arrive and drives for any other race.......
You can also call VKP in Carol Stream.....they have equipment for rent too.

Well, if you want to rent a kart for the races next season, call me up. I dont plan on racing much if at all at Norway and I am 20 mins away. I am sure we can work out something for a rental plan. Currently I have a TaG (09 Rotax) but can very easily have an HPV for you to run. I was planning on getting one anyway. Let me know. The only thing I request of anyone renting my kart is that they buy the seat or bring your own if possible. In my opinion, thats a big deal in being comfy in a kart.

Whats the going rate to rent a Leopard for a club race? A weekend series?
Some of those arrive and drive programs for a National type race is around $3000 for the weekend.
