I know of 3 used RM1's for sale ranging in price from $3800 to $5000. It only takes 3 karts to make a class at Norway. Anyone interetsed in racing the RM1?
If the shifter is more your speed, there are 3 available for the same price range and they already have a shifter class.
Phil,
I talked to Martin Lenick and Peter J. Both of them are interested in test driving an RM1. Martin is currently racing TAG. Peter is currently racing HPV. Peter said he is looking for something that requires less maintainence than HPV.

That's great news...when I get back from Ocala next week, I can set up a test drive. There are 6 RM1 owners in the Chicago/burbs area. Let's hope we can add to that and get the class going at Norway. I am trying to get a couple of them to come out with me this Saturday.
The RM1 is definitely a lot easier to keep clean that the karts with chain drives, and the stock gearing works for most sprint tracks. I run the same gearing at Norway, SBRP, USAIR and RAKC (Road America) That cuts down on time spent wrenching.

RAKC at RA in Elkhart Lake WI has an RM1 class that draws an average of 5 or 6 RM1's. From the Northside of Chicago, it's probably closer to RA than Norway so you guys may want to check it out. I'll be racing there this Saturday so I'll get an accurate count and let you know.

Hi Phil,
After testing the RM1 yesterday at RA, you can count me in for racing one at Norway next year. Now I just need to sell my HPV equipment.

That's great news. I'll pass the word around about your HPV.
After driving the RA track, how would you compare it to Norway? Would you be interested in doing a couple races there next year?

Hi Phil,
Road America was much more physical than Norway, with more turns and less straightaway. I particularly enjoyed the section coming down from the top of the hill, with the left hander feeding into a corksrew style right.
After some time getting used to the kart at Norway, I'd definitely be interested in taking another shot at Road America.

My favorite part of the track.

Hey Phil
I'm interested - wouldn't mind test driving one of them first of course.
Realistically though, I'm not sure I'll be ready to shell out the cash.
More importantly, I have this general feeling that I'm still cutting my teeth on a single-speed 100cc HPV and I wonder if I'm really ready for a 125cc with gears, front brakes, etc :).
I'm only now getting to the point where I can turn laps with the leaders in HPV. Makes me think that I still have a lot to learn about tuning and driving! :)

Glad to hear you're considering the RM1. We had 10 at the last race at RA so the class is definitely growing. We can setup a test day sometime in the near future so you can get a behind the wheel view. I believe you will come away with a smile on your face.
Comparing the RM1 to the HPV at Norway, you will definitely be going into the Monza faster but most everywhere else on the track, your cornering speed will be similar to the HPV. The only real difference is, you will get to the turns faster and slow down a lot quicker. It will definitely feel safer with the 4 disc brakes especially coming into the hairpin. I think you will find it's a lot easier to drive than you think.
Maybe Peter and Rick can give you their take on their experience with the RM1 but from what I saw, they caught on pretty quick. Heck the first race Rick entered in the RM1, he won it and he was up against a couple of the good guys.

Add one more RM1 to the group planning on racing at Norway next year :yea: Paul Doubet from Peoria picked up an RM1 and will start practicing sometime this week. Also, I got a call from a CIR member today that is shopping for an RM1 but I'll let him make his own post when he makes the purchase.
The group north of the border is a good 10 to 12 strong and the south of the border group is growing fast. The run offs at the park race in Sturgeon Bay next year should be a blast. We could have 20 RM1's on the grid. That would be exciting :4:
