I went to Dromo1 Indoor Karting (http://www.dromo1.com/) located in Orange, CA. The have gas powered karts with adjustable seats. In terms of power and grip, they are similar to CIR's karts. They only have one track and 21.5 is the best lap time ever in the track configuration I ran it in. The track surface is slightly sticker than CIR's.
The facility itself was no where near as nice as CIR's facilities. It was relatively small. But real estate in California is not cheap either.
The prices are $25 per arrive and drive or 3 for $25. The format is roughly 7 laps of qualifying, then grid based on qualifying. A standing start and then roughly a 20 lap positional race. which gave me roughly 12 minutes of track time or $2/minute.
I also liked their "King of the Course" idea. On certain days, the winning driver will automatically advance to the next race for free until some one kicks him off the hill.
I had a chance to race with the 9th and 10th drivers ranked by R.P.M. (similar to proscore).
If you're ever in the area, I definitely recommend Dromo1 for your karting fix.
