I am trying to get a new Rotax Junior kart sorted out and need some VP MS93 fuel (which is apparently spec for Rotax). Any idea on the best way to get some in Chicago. I don't need a huge container, just 5 gallons for now.

Thanks, Don

Unfortunately, CHMS only sells Sunoco fuel. I bought mine from Phillip Gordon last year.

I am only carrying the sunoco fuel this year since the spec fuel for the MPS RMax qualifier is sunoco. I'll buy the VP onsite when I need to. I did check into the availability of VP and so far the closest supplier is in South Bend IN.

Don....there is a DD2 racer thinking about coming to the CHMS race this Saturday. If he confirms, and you still need a can of VP, I can ask him to bring you one. Let me know.

Phil,

So it's ok to use Sunoco fuel in a DD2?

Yes. I found the Sunoco GTX 98 to work best in the DD2. The std 110 made the kart sluggish. It is also leaded and tends to leave deposits on the plug. If you change your plug at the end of each race day you may not have that problem.

Phil, thanks for the offer. I think we may go to MRP to set up and break the engine in on Saturday (we're not quite ready for the first race on Sunday), so I'll see if I can get some fuel there. Our plan is to run Ian in Junior Rotax this summer, and I'm going to run his Yamaha in the (very) senior class. Don

If you're going to South Bend, you can get the fuel from Marshall Martin at the LSR Motorsports tent. That's actually who was going to send the fuel to Norway for you. Follow the break in procedure closely, it's critical on the Rotax motor and remember to add a couple more ounces of 2 cycle oil to the mix. I personally like to break in the motor with non-synthetic oil. Good luck and have fun.

One more thing. Is it okay to charge the Rotax battery with a regular battery charger that has a low voltage setting? I'm still waiting for the "official" charger.

I think you meant low 'amperage' setting, but yes, as long as it's very low, like a trickle charge mode.

If you want to play it safe, I have extra chargers if you want to borrow one. I live in Evanston. Just let me know.

Man, you're too nice! Thanks.

Let me hook it up tonight and see if I can get it to work. If not, I'll call you tomorrow. We're in Northfield, so you're not far at all.

THANKS! Don

No problem. I actually have to make a trip to the Neiman Marcus store in Northfield today or tomorrow so if we can coordinate times I can meet you there.

I would tell you but then I would have to kill you :grinno:

I do some side jobs for a company that had me park a Lexus 460 inside the store. Now they want me to take a picture of the display and e-mail it to them.

Phil,
I got the charger to work (it had a 2 amp setting). Thanks again for the offer. Hope to see you around this spring. Are you going to be at MRP or Road America at all?

Good, I'm glad that worked out for you. It's not my favorite thing driving on I-94 through Gary IN but I'll get out to MRP at least once this year just not sure of when at this point. I'll be at RA with the MPS May 26th and Jul 14th. That track is awesome.

If Ian is in decent shape on final exams, we'll plan to see you at RA on the 26th. Thanks again. Since I'm close by, if you ever need anything, give me a call (except for a charger, of course).

Did you make it out to MRP? How did you guys do? Did you get a chance to meet Marshall? He's all good. We raced for years together...some of the most on track fun I've had in racing.

Awesome weekend. We got his Junior Rotax running great. He finished second in the final, and had a great weekend. (I qualified 9th and blew out the exhaust can on the Yamaha on the first lap of the final). I did meet Marshall (needed a carb jet, and some fuel, and some more fuel, and some oil, etc) and he is really great.

You know, I've got a fifteen year old who wants to spend the entire weekend with me doing what we love together ... and it was great weather to boot!

Thanks for asking about last weekend. Looking forward to seeing you at Road America on May 26th.

Best feeling in the world...it doesn't get much better than that. I'm glad you guys had fun. I'm looking forward to meeting you both.

Don & Ian...

Great job out there yesterday! Ian did a great job of chasing that other driver down and taking second position. He never gave up and kept chipping away at the gap and made it happen. Congrats! We look forward to seeing you guys out there this season!

Thanks. And Congrats to Brennan on an awesome weekend.

I'd like to think that Ian's debut in the Rotax offset my debut in the (very) senior Yamaha SSX.

If any other CIR dads want to join me on the track next time, I could sure use the company!!
