View Full Version : A question on engine rebuild time?

Im not going to name names but....On Easter morning I took a long drive and dropped off my motor for complete rebuild on engine. Plus carb work, 2 carbs, hone 2 cylinders and so on. He said 2 weeks, no problem. Well its almost 5 weeks and he says he will have it at Dousman for me. Will have no time to break in or get practice in for race. So now i will miss first race for Tag Masters.
What or should be done to help my anger!!! LOl! I feel he should drop the price for job, cause of time it took! 2 weeks ago builder was at a major series race and had major blown engines to deal with. He told me these were more important and needed to be done. I thought I was one of his customers too!!!! WTF! He has made numerous excuses to put me in the back of the line. What sucks is that I had 90% of parts for rebuild. All I needed was some gaskets and some bearings. He said he had. He had zero downtime for parts!!!
This is why to me karting is mostly a bunch of yahoos running things. No wonder this sport kills itself and most racers stick around 3 years or less!

Ya that sucks and my 3 years is about up!!! May just sell and bail out. My kart is 100% re-build. From brake cylinders to engine to chassie to chassie powder coat, mychron 3 plus gone over by Aim. New evo bodywork. The kart looks brand new. Engine muffler and header pipe is new. New axle. You name it its done. Trouble is I couldnt get 2 nickles for it!!!
I picked up engine this morning. Dont want to break in engine on stand in this cold weather. Might just leave as is and new owner can have fun!!!!

Come to the Darkside of fun and no headaches of engine work.
Our first series race is in 2 weeks. I have an engine you can try if you would like.

Might take you up on that. Race is at Dousman right?
I broke my engine in. Though I had a hard time getting heat in engine. I put the smaller Tag rad that comes with it. The Shockwave rad would only get to 127 on first break in session. 2nd session got to 140 and parked it. Maybe a 3rd run tomorrow night. I live on a golf course community. Caused quite the stir when I was racing around the block just breaking in engine.
By the way had a bendix stick and sheared the gear on bendix. Might be hard to find. Maxter isnt doing the job I had hoped with the Sonik. On ebay there is a bendix with the same amount of teeth. Its for a snowmobile, I hope it works......
Thanks Jeff

So that's what you were doing going through your neighborhood haha.
Real bummer about the rebuild. That's another reason why I switched to Stock Moto.
It is going to be weird to see you in proper/clean/new kart, with everything that works on it.... you should run in a tire barrier right off the bat to get it back into Salak shape Haha. JK Jeff :)

Yes first race is at Badger.
You need one of those trick M2 kartsport Waterpump Thermostats:grinyes: No temp problems then. Don't give up on karting it can be enjoyable and not a headache.
How many teeth bendix do you need?

The bendix has 14T on the small gear. Looks to be 42T on bigger gear. Im wondering if a Leopard would work or maybe the ones on the engines you run? The ebay ones are not the same size:(
Those are VERY nice thermostats. Whats the damage for those?

Well after looking into my Bendix problem most of the Tag engines use the same Bendix. Yet they can go for a PRD bendix is $75.00 lowest price I found. Then the same bendix can go for $135 at other shops for a ROKTT bendix. What a shame!!! How the kart racers get bent over time and time again!!!
With a long search on google I found the same exact Bendix for $18. Getting one shipped just to see if they are the same. If not oh well only $20 down the drain. Could be China crap, but if it works beautiful!!! Not much to a bendix, they shouldnt be more than $35 to begin with!
I know this doesn't help your particular situation. But just food for thought....
For $60 more than a ROK TT Bendix, you could buy an entire CR125 Crank Assembly (http://www.fastech-racing.com/product.php?productid=1174&cat=93&page=1). And that will last 2 years from of hardcore racing from what I've been told.
