Nice pictures. How did Peter do?

Thank you for the congratulations.

For qualfying I went with a set of 2 cycle tires. I had the second quickest time in the session. My dad was .5 faster than me and I was .3 faster than the next person.

For the race I ran sticker tires and could stay with my dad for the most part. He chose the wrong strategy with a lap car and my self as well as another driver got by. I was an incredibly fun race.

Nice pictures Mark, thank you for posting them.

Rick:
Peter did very well. He set a goal of doing some laps in the 1:24's today and not only did he break into the 1:24's he was doing very low 1:24's in qualifying and the race. I think he did a very nice job. His stated goal prior to this weekend was to not be lapped by the leaders. If it weren't for one accidental spin he would have easily accomplished his goal. He had the speed today to do so. His car also looks great. The color scheme is very nice and the car all around looks very good. I hope you enjoy it very much Peter!

Congratulations Reed. Sounds like it was a close race....those wins are the best.

Good job Peter...you did what you set out to do...well done.

It would be appropriate to thank the people who assisted this weekend:

First, my dad and Art Kopp for giving me a good set of tires for qualifying and helping me out for the last couple years of racing.

Second, Elite Autosport for setting up a really good car. The car was set up fantastically and had a REALLY strong engine.

Third, Martin Lenick for helping with some sticker tire sponsorship under the terms that I would in return promise to beat my dad. Thank you Marty it was a huge help.

Fourth, Mark Hirt for some excellent photography and being helpful at the track all along with questions or insights or critiques on specific corners(this is actually not sarcastic. Mark is a great resource around a race track). Thanks Mark

You should come for a ride with me in the Yellow "long boom" wrecker :grinno:

It shakes like it's about to fall apart (it is) at what feels like 50 (speedo no worky) but taking 3d, 4 fast feels like your pulling 4G.

I made that offer to the Chief Steward and Chief Instructor to take that "slow" driver for a lap in the truck so she could feel what it's suppose to feel like to corner at the limit but they thought it might scare her.

Hi guys,

It was a very good weekend for me. I finally became comfortable enough with the car to be able to adjust it mid-corner. That should give me the confidence to push harder in coming races, though hopefully not to the point that I lock up the fronts and drive off the track as I did on Sunday.

Many thanks to Rick Bartuska, Reed's dad, for driver coaching through out the weekend. Regretably, I was the lapped car that he ended up stuck behind at the end of the race. Many apologies for that. Congrats to Reed for sticking with his dad through the whole race and being there to capitalize on the opportunity. Thanks to Mark for the nice pictures and words of encouragement during the weekend as well.

I feel confident that I will be able to stay on the lead lap this coming weekend. Hopefully I can run some laps in the 1:23's. I qualified with a 1:24.1 and ran a 1:24.2 in the race Sunday.

Unfortunately.... being tied to the Blue truck does not allow me better photo ops at Blackhawk. Road America is usually a different story. At Sprints I think I'm chief of course and the Jeep and I should be very mobile.

The photo attached in my favorite.

Taken with my old Olympus OM-4 (film) form the old corner 9 station. The old 9 station was drivers right in the trees past the SnapOn bridge (it was not there) The flagging location was about 2 feet off the apex talk about being close to the action.

note: this photo is not cropped in any way

I've got to change my priorities - I keep missing the best races.

Congratulations, all. What I'm really thinking: Reed! Reed! Reed! Everybody else, hahahahahahahahaha. :grinno:

Reed, what was going through your mind during the last lap? Hirt and I both want to know. :)

I had badly flat spotted a tire with about 4 laps to go (the same incident that crunched up the nose on my car). So I was being careful with the brakes to avoid making the flat spot even worse or locking up and going off. This was allowing Bob Lojkovic to catch me a little bit each lap. When we went past my dad Bob was right on me. So for the whole last lap I was just thinking about where he was going to attempt to pass. Luckily 2 things happened. First, Bob didn't realize it was the last lap so he was working out where he was going to pass me on the next lap. Second, we caught a lap car going into 7. So I dove on the lap car which didn't leave bob much room to make a move anyway. He was closing coming down the straight but did not have quite enough to get next to me or pass.

It was an extremely exciting race.

Rick, I did not crash like a Nasclown.

Were you blocking? :)

I never said you crashed like a Nasclown. :peace:

I did not block because I knew that if I blocked it would slow me down enough that Bob would get a really good run on the next corner. So I just drove as fast as I could. When I passed the lap car I did not block but it would not have been a wise choice for Bob to make it 3 wide going into 7 or both of us may not have come out.

I was joking about the Nasclown thing. It was just a funny term that you used a while back and I remembered it.
