Concept Haulers Motor Speedway
(Norway)
Today was the most fun I've had there to date.
Mickelson beat me in my own kart.
Applechuck cut seconds off his time, and will crush CoolBreezeRacer soon.
Ryan brought good booze. Well, not good, but the booze I drink.
John Oyen didn't make contact with anyone.
Just kidding, John. You've got to get your own kart and race with us. Thanks for the pictures and the non-alcoholic beverages (what a strange sensation).
Roberto, good thing you weren't out there, pal, we would have smoked you.
Thanks to all that were there. I'm still smiling seven hours after the race.

I still feel bad about your incident. It's so sad to see a new kart beat up like that. I still can't believe you thought it was my fault at first. Thank god that guy came up afterwards and apologized for hitting me and causing the wreck. :peace:
Mickelson beat me in my own kart.Congrats Dave! A real good showing for your first official race!
Applechuck cut seconds off his time, and will crush CoolBreezeRacer soon.Phil is still faster.
Ryan brought good booze. Well, not good, but the booze I drink. Thanks for the beers and the Dewars Ryan!
John Oyen didn't make contact with anyone.Yeah... but his presence caused an abnormal amout of contact. :grinno:
Just kidding, John. You've got to get your own kart and race with us. Thanks for the pictures and the non-alcoholic beverages (what a strange sensation). Yes, you should definitely race so someone else can take the blame for all the incidents. :evil_lol:
Roberto, good thing you weren't out there, pal, we would have smoked you.
 I can't wait to see Roberto vs Martin. I plan on having front row seats.
Thanks to all that were there. I'm still smiling seven hours after the race.Ditto. I'm still happy with the race day (except for Martin's kart getting molested). Ryan and John, I hope you guys had a good time. See you next race weekend!
Here's an interesting link: http://www.karting1.co.uk/suter-vampire.htm The Vampire is the same engine that Trent was running in the TAG/DD2 class. I had no idea it is a 250cc engine. It really runs with TAG (in 4 stroke TAGS).

Sounds like you guys had a great time. Sorry I missed it.
I've had a pretty good weekend up here at Blackhawk. I improved 6 tenths in qualifying versus last week. Hopefully I can pickup some more today.
Reed's dad Rick is really flying. He is on the pole, 6 tenths quicker than the entire field.

Be patient guys, I will be out there soon!
I hope you are getting enough seat time :peace:
Martin, did you already crash the new chassis?
See you guys soon!
Roberto
Martin, did you already crash the new chassis?
The guy behind me drove his kart right into the back of mine. His front bumper and wheels went over the back of my bumper. That caused his kart to jump up in the air and do a 360 and started traveling backwards. Martin was right behind that guy and drove his kart right into the guy who just spun. The scary thing is that all I felt was a light bump like someone was trying to bump me. The kart got a little loose but nothing overly exciting. Luckily I didn't crash as well.

what lap times were you guys running?
Roberto
Martin had a 47.3. I finally got into the 46's; 46.6 on my MyChron, I think it was 46.8 according to CHMS timing system. I think the top TAG guys were in 46's too. In the feature, the top TAG guys ran low 47's or 47 flat I think.

Thanks Martin for everything I had a great time racing with you guys.
The only reason I was able to finish ahead of Martin was because of my great crew chief. He was able to get the bugs out of kart so it would run and also put together a great handling package. John can attest to that I was able to drive anywhere on the track. Thanks again Martin.
Great pics John but I wished you would have got the one when Martin was ahead of me.

MyLaps shows your fastest lap as a 47.054. The top TAG guys were running in the 46's. What motor packages were they using?
Dave
Congrats. Pretty impressive for your first race. I'm curious to know what was wrong with the vintage Birel. What was the fix for the problem?
Rick

Yeah I'm not really sure how that all works. There seems to be missing data from MyLaps. I never actually looked at the official timing sheets. Ryan and Martin looked at them and told me I had a 26.8. The MyChron reported 26.5.

The battery was bad.

He tried that already :)

We changed the Fuel Pump and Fuel Filter on the Vintage Birel. Checked the carb and reeds, cleaned the air-filter (first time!) put it out for practice and had the same problem: cuts out, starter doesn't engage, seconds later the starter would mysteriously engage. I wasn't sure if the starter symptom was actually occurring the previous weeked, that's why we went through the fuel/air system. Changed the battery and the problem went away.
I've heard rumors that a battery can have a "bad plate". Apparently that was the case. It was a new battery with a strong charge, but seemed to "open circuit" under heavy ignition loading.

Should have never put a "new" battery in a Vintage kart
I'm glad it was not "just mad at you".... but then again it did allow Dave to beat you

The new Birel suffered a bent tie-rod, a smashed left pod and bent pod-frame, and a cracked front bumper; that's it, as far as I know.
I did think it was Rick's fault at first, but it wasn't. When we put together everyone's perspective, it was John Oyen's fault. hahaha
It happened pretty darn quickly.
I was a second slower in the heats than I was in earlier practices. Les came by and tweeked the needles, did a "precision" re-gap of the plug, said some magic words, and I got that second back. Well, most of it, anyway, but I was exhausted in the feature and left lots on the track. There's still lots more in that kart when I figure out how to tune it and drive it.
The fastest two leapords are 46.77 and 46.8'something. So far my best is 47.30
I'll get 'em.

Did you get the battery replaced under warranty? I remember when you bought it like 3 weeks ago. I've heard about that problem too but I thought it only happened to batteries around a year old. I just bought two of those batteries. I hope I don't have the same problem.
I am glad you at least figured out the problem and it's running good again. If guys keep running over your new birel you at least have a good back up kart to jump in and keep racing :evil_lol:

Yea...he's still got some work...but so do I. My plan is to get out to CHMS by myself to dial in the new CRG and get my lap times down in the 45's. Then I'm going to take Martin's advice and put a lot of room between Rick and myself :evil_lol:

Did you get the battery replaced under warranty?
I doubt there's a warranty on a battery; I certainly wouldn't persue it. First, it's only about $40 bucks. Second, who's to say I didn't bang it, drop it, or abuse it in some way or another. Sometimes things happen that are no one's fault, or, at least, don't warrant restitution. When I suspected the battery, Les didn't lose a second ripping one off some kart in his garage and giving it to me. I told him to put it on my bill. If he doesn't, I'll tell him again.

Actually I'd like to get out there before my next race at CHMS June 2nd but not sure exactly when.
