View Full Version : Now I know what it feels like to be run over.
There were a lot of entries today in the TAG Senior class at CHMS. Matt P, Stefan S, Paul Russo, #63, #37, #77, #18, #10 (aka da blocker), Jordan, and #8 (new guy). Even Roberto Castro showed up today! Everything was going good for #88 until about turn 3 in heat 1. #8 failed to brake and just ran over me. 360 lbs of kart landing on my shin was painful and discouraged me from racing any further. I had Vicki check it out and it looks like no broken bones.
The comment I'll never forget is:
"Man, those [TAG] guys are crazy!!! They're making crazy passes!" - Roberto Castro
Coming from Roberto (a survivor of Rock Island), that's SCARY!

You have had some very unfortunate luck this year. Was the damage to your kart very bad?
How many total entrants were there and who finished where?

Actually it was this race that I was taken out in:

As you can see, 5 out of 13 were DNFs. It was definitely a crazy race with accidents every where. Unfortunately the guy who ran me over actually continued on and finished. He also finished in last or DNF'ed in all the races. I think it was his first time in a race at CHMS. Stefan said he just ran right over my rear right and drove over me. He took out my front panel as his kart came across and over mine. His left rear landed on my shin bone.
It looks like Matt P, Stefan, and Roberto did very well in the feature! Congratulations guys!

Thank you for posting the results guys. I looks like Matt Palmieri did a fantastic job. I think when Mr. Lenick makes his return to TAG racing he will have quite a challenge waiting for him.

The amount of carnage I've been hearing about at Norway seems pretty ridiculous to me. I guess I was foolish to think that people would be more reasonable about their abilities in open-wheeled karts (as opposed to CIR), where there is serious risk of injury.

I think it's a combination of things. I think that there are a lot of people without any prior wheel to wheel racing experience who have bought a TAG kart to start racing. Secondly, the random grid system that CHMS uses potentially places these guys higher up in the pack than they should be. This is potentially increasing the likely hood of contact. Personally, I'd like to see a grid based on qualifying lap times. I would say that it's a matter of time before someone get's seriously hurt, but unfortunately that has already happened.

He could also be like Kubica and be very fast. :)

I agree that the random grid is part of the problem. A qualifying system would help.

Do you guys have drivers meetings in the morning? You could potentially propose a vote and then if the majority voted for it you could decide to race with qualifying grid based on lap time. It seems more than fair. You might also get an opportunity for some of the drivers who "block" all the time to see that the fast guys aren't doing that.

Yes we have driver's meetings in the morning. I wouldn't want to initiate a vote until I'm pretty sure we're going to win. :)
Update: Vicki thinks I have a bruised shin bone. It still hurts to walk or run on. But I can still drive so it's ok for now.
