View Full Version : ROK TT stronger than Leopard?
Is it just coincidence that winners in TAG Senior and TAG Masters were running ROK TT? Top finishing Leopard in TAG Senior was 5th place.

Coincidence? Nope.
I know that Johnny Johnson, Caleb Lienewski, and Scott Evans were three of the guys runnning the TT.
Johnny and Caleb are top 5 ICA drivers from Stars, and Scott is a long time street racer. Check him out on the top rankings for RIGP.
Also, Johnny and Caleb are running Kosmic karts from J3 Competition. Kosmic is a TonyKart brand, and so is Vortex. J3 has pressure and financial incentive from Italy to run the TT.
If you were the importer, and wanted to get some buzz about the new motor you have, who would you put in the seat? Mid pack guys with cash or the best top runners you could find? Win on sunday sell on monday, etc...
In regards to speed, time will tell. It is not a bad motor by any means, but neither is the Leopard. We like the Leopard because it is fast and reliable. And easy to get parts, etc... There were Rotaxs and Sonics and Leopards fast throughout the weekend too. I don't see anything to worry about yet.

Welcome to the world of TAG. Choosing the right motor is only one part of the equation. I believe it was last year that Jordan Musser got his butt handed to him because he chose the wrong tire...he was on YHC's and the tire of choice was the Vega blue. I've heard rumors of a 'new' leopard motor that rev's to 17K and will smoke the current leopard so if you plan to race the Rock next year, start saving your dollars to purchase the 'right' motor and tire package a week before the event. Then maybe you'll have the lastest and greatest to be competitive.

The Vortex TT is the engine to have if they keep it at the Leopard weight.
No doubt about it.

Just some checking on the web says that the Leopard (in stock form) makes 27hp at 11,000 and that the TT makes 29hp at 13,500. Remo Racing had a Leopard Dyno posted and the TT info is straight from their site (but no dyno plot to back that up).
