Well at least one good thing came out of your karting incident...you lost your memory :evil_lol:

 Well it turned out that Martin couldn't make the race. I was planning on racing TAG with him. But since he bailed at the last minute due to work, I decided to do a three man team with Jim and Adam in my DD2.

We were all tentative about the race because both Adam and Jim have never actually raced in two stroke karts before. Adam's experience in two stroke karts was limited to a couple of laps in Martin's Rotax FR125 vintage Birel kart. Jim has about 2-3 hours experience in two strokes. I haven't even driven my DD2 for the entire season.

We decided to give Adam all the practice time so he could get used to the kart. He went off in turn 1 on his first lap. The track was cold and he was not used to the shifting. That was not a good sign. He finally got going and finished out the session.

After hanging around and watching the a few of the other races before ours, Adam was feeling uneasy. I guess the sheer number of collisions, multiple red flags, and ambulances made him feel unsure about whether or not he wanted to race. Jim and I tried to console him by trying to convince him that this was all working in our favor because all the aggressive and dangerous drivers would eventually take each other out.

I started for our team and lost the throttle cable in turn 4 on the first lap. After waiting for 10 minutes, the tow vehicle finally came and got me. Joel Driver quickly put together a quick fix made up of safety wire and I was back out on track. Thanks Joel!

Adam was supposed to go out in the second stint but he opted not too. Jim took over and went out and drove a good clean race and stayed out of trouble.

Around lap 64, Adam said he wanted to drive the last stint. That was perfect timing because Jim was getting pretty tired. Adam jumped in on lap 75 and drove the kart home without incident.

Overall it was a good race. Our primary objective was to finish the race and not have any of us go to the emergency room. We achieved that objective. As a bonus we ended up surprisingly winning the DD2 class. That's really nice since neither Jim or Adam have any prior two stroke racing experience. :thumb1:

Congrats to Phil for finishing 2nd in DD2!

Congrats to Matt and Stefan for finishing 2nd in TAG!

Congrats to Roberto, Bob and Paul for finishing 3rd in TAG!

Congrats to the CIR Junior team who did an outstanding job by making the podium in almost all their races!

Joel and I also took a lot of pictures. I'll post those up later.

You're so good at telling only part of the story.

Fact is my team spanked your team by lapping you guys on the track not once but I believe 4 times? We also turned the fastest lap time in the race, 46.317 to your 47.4, and completed 96 laps to your 73 but got DQ'd because Les and Andy were having a bad day. It could be worse, we could've won the 100 lapper and then found out we really didn't because they decided to run 101 lapper and we didn't compete the last lap like what happened in the first 100 lapper race....and now you know the rest of the story.

You know me better than that Rick. I'm not upset. Fact is I really don't care. It's not a race I take seriously. I enjoy doing it because I get to practice my racecraft. My goal every year is to pass as many karts as possible without making contact and I am happy to say I did that again this year. Although I got a little help from lady luck. After missing the 4 cycle TAG mayhem in turn one and finding myself going from 8th on the grid to second in just one turn, I guess I got a little over anxious with the throttle. Being on cold sticker tires, on a cold track, it didn't take much to spinout but thanks to some great driving from the pack, they all avoided me.

I'm sure you'll be there to remind me about the details. :)

Phil, it's obvious you guys should have 'won' by number of laps completed. I'm just happy for Jim and Adam that they 'won' (even on a technicality) in their first 2 stroke racing experience. Honestly, we did not even think we had a chance. We thought we would have come in dead last in DD2. We did this for fun. This was not a serious race for us. I was looking forward to racing seriously in TAG with Martin but he couldn't make it. In all fairness, it wasn't like we were 20+ laps off the pace. We did have mechanical issues. We lost a throttle cable which cost us 20 laps. And we had a flat tire which cost us about 5 laps.

I had a lot of fun. Rick, I really appreciate the opportunity you gave me. I have to admit, I feel I could have made more progress in my driving if I wasn't constantly worrying about getting in peoples' way. Once I got used to the shifting, I was a lot more comfortable.

Yes, thanks for the opportunity Rick, I had a great time. I just hope I didn't get in the way too much as well. Also Adam, I thought you did a good job and of course the most important thing is that we all avoided contact.

It wasn't a bad day on our part that got you DQ'd. It was driving a kart that you weren't registered in. This was covered in the drivers meeting. Using "I didn't come to the drivers meeting" is not a successfull excuse.

Had you told us that you would be driving the second kart, there would have been no problems.

Rick - The pictures are very good, who was your excellent photographer? Thank you for posting them.

Phil - Nice job, its to bad it won't go down on paper the way it actually went down. It will happen to someone else someday and you will enjoy your win.

Rick/Adam/Jim - Nice job on your first endurance race together. It shows good spirit that you didn't just give up when the throttle cable broke and you lost 20 laps. It also sounds like you all had a lot of fun which is great.

I will definitely put this on my list of spectacles to spectate next year.

If you are looking for Monza's, we have some of them, and can work with you. Birel's too if that would fit the bill better.

Andy

Didn't mean to ignore your response. I would've responded sooner if I had seen it.

Whether or not you were having a bad day had nothing to do with our DQ and you are also right, I was not at the drivers meeting although representatives from our team were there.

I am sorry to hear you take this forum so seriously that you consider comments on here 'cheap shots' and would cause you to be livid at what I said. After hearing your Dad's side of it, and I guess your side coming from him, I can understand, so I apologize. I sometimes forget this is not the Rick and Martin forum and although I bust their balls on here, I'd be the first to offer them trackside assistance if they needed it. I doubt if you'd ever ask me, but if you needed my help, I would give it to you too. I guess what I am saying is, there was no malicious intent here. So as we say in Jamaica, no problem, and cool runnings man.
